This page explains the terms used in our siding quote form. If you’re not sure what a specific option means, you can quickly find it below and understand how it relates to your home’s exterior.
siding terms explained in easy and simple way

The triangular upper section of an exterior wall where two roof slopes meet. Gable work typically includes installing siding and trim in that area to match the rest of the home and properly seal edges and transitions.
A dormer is a roofed structure that projects out from a sloped roof, typically containing a window and its own small roofline. Dormer work typically includes siding and trim on the dormer walls and careful flashing/sealing where the dormer meets the roof and main wall.
The soffit is the finished underside of the roof overhang (the horizontal surface under the eaves). It helps protect the roof structure and often provides ventilation for the attic when vented soffit is used.
The fascia is the vertical board/trim along the edge of the roof where the gutters typically attach. It covers and protects the ends of the roof framing and provides a clean finished edge at the eaves.
A band board is a horizontal trim detail installed between levels of a home (for example, between the first and second story) to create a clean transition and finished look. It also helps cover and protect the joint where different wall sections meet.
A frieze board is a horizontal trim board installed near the top of an exterior wall, typically where the wall meets the soffit/eave. It creates a clean finished transition and helps protect edges and joints at that upper wall line.
A sunroom is an enclosed room (often with lots of windows) that may have different wall materials, framing, and tie-ins than the main house. Sunroom work typically includes installing siding/trim on the sunroom exterior and properly sealing transitions where it connects to the home.
Fanfold insulation is a thin rigid foam board that comes folded in sections and is installed under siding to help flatten uneven surfaces and add a small amount of insulation. 3/8″ fanfold refers to the thickness of the foam board used.
Gutters are channels installed along the roof edge to collect rainwater and direct it to the downspouts. Downspouts are the vertical pipes that carry the water from the gutters down to the ground and away from the foundation.
Leaf guards are protective covers installed over gutters to help keep leaves and debris out while still allowing water to flow through. They reduce clogging and the need for frequent gutter cleaning, but may still require occasional maintenance depending on trees and debris.
